In the windy city of Chicago, Illinois, in 1961, times were not easy for Vincent Capone. While working as a route salesman for the Coca Cola Bottling Company, Vince was also the Owner/ Operator of the Flicker-lite Lounge. Although Grand Avenue was an excellent location, Vince often thought of a warmer climate.

While serving in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1945, Vince traveled to many places, but the one place that really caught his attention was sunny Florida. So Vince left Chicago and found a small sleepy city called Hollywood, Which some believed was not even on the map. Soon after his arrival, Vince called his family in Chicago with the good news. It was not long after, when his wife Joan and their children joined him. He had found the perfect lounge on the water, called the Royal Palm. they moved into a small duplex on Buchanan Street, just across from the lounge. Once Joan arrived, she very much became part of the business. She started by insisting that Royal Palm be changed to Capone's Flicker-lite Restaurant. Soon after the name change, Vince decided to add Chicago style pizza to the menu, knowing that the only restaurant on the beach was Joe Sonkens. Staying with Joan's Traditional style of cooking, they decided to create their own pizza from scratch. This quickly started the ball rolling and Flicker-lite was known for it's great pizza.

Before long, one by one , Vince's entire family would come to work in the Flicker-lite, creating the perfect atmosphere. in the summer of 1980, Vince's son Richard saw the need for water front dinning. So water front was established, and the menu grew, with Joan insisting that everything be homemade including her meatballs. Pretty soon the Flicker-lite was to small, prompting its expansion in 1994. Menentos of the years past hang within the restaurant, including various tributes to Chicago's great city and sports teams. Keeping up with tradition, we here at the Flicker-lite would like to continue serving you to the best of our ability.
